After being in the corporate world for more than a decade now, Nilesh Rathod narrates a fast-paced story; offering an insider’s view of what goes on behind the glittering facade of corporate stardom. A Graduate in Commerce, a Chartered Financial Analyst and co-founder of Ensemble Infrastructure India Limited, Nilesh never planned to be a writer. In an exclusive interview to eVowlive, he talks about his debut novel, ‘Destiny of Shattered Dreams‘ and his upcoming projects.

Why should a ‘librocubicultarist’ spend money for – ‘Destiny of Shattered Dreams’?

‘Destiny of Shattered Dreams’ is the story of a tug of war between career ambitions and personal relationships. It is also a story of the struggle to keep your righteousness while the incentive to succumb to easy successes is all over the place. It is a page turner, an easy read, with an underlining message to tell.

Since we have asked this question from every other writer, we are not going to spare you with this- How did you come across the idea of writing the ‘Destiny of Shattered Dreams’? Is it inspired by real life incidents or is born out of your imagination?

DOSD is a figment of imagination. The story was never intended to be a book like it is today, it was a story I had written for myself. When I shared it with a few friends, it was their prodding and persuasion which got me to polish my manuscript and enlarge it to suit a novel it is today.

Coming to your second novel ‘The Emissary’, It draws a comparison between untouchability in India and anti-Semitism in Europe. Did you ever fear picking up a plot far away from the trivial inertia’s of campus romance; considering the meager reader base stories sort of ‘The Emissary’ have in India?

I do not pick up stories with a reader in mind, I write for myself and if I am able to impress myself with the story, the market size for the genre does not matter to me. In any case, The Emissary too will be a page turner, only that it is historical fiction based on two ideologies which have shaped the 20th century and possibly the future of humanity on the whole. How can a subject like this not have a mass reader interest?

These days, a lot of young folks have started writing especially with the advent of social media. How do you intercept this change? What’s your advice to aspiring writers?

Yes, a lot of people are indeed taking to writing, which is amazing. The craft is sure to see a huge surge and a lot of great writers will emerge in the near future. I would advise aspiring writers to get as much genuine feedback for their work and be hone their skills, as good writing is not the same as mere writing, it needs a lot of skill and perseverance. One must constantly work towards sharpening that skill. It is a wonderful way of presenting your art and remember do it to impress yourself first, if you cannot do that, it is doubtful you will impress anyone else with it.
